Governments are altering advice on provision or wearing of face masks in public, but it seems likely that advice may be to wear masks, particularly in enclosed settings with other people. As well as dispensing masks, employers might want to consider how to dispense advice on best technique in putting on and taking off masks.
Here are tips we’ve compiled from WHO, ECDC and CDC sources – and links below to two good articles reviewing how to and when to wear a mask.
Step one – wash your hands before touching your mask and after you take it off – by far the most important step
Step two – Make sure your mask covers nose and fits comfortably around your face, ie that it’s snug to your face and secure in place with earloops or ties
Step three – don’t touch your mask while wearing it – if you have to touch it wash your hands otherwise you’re defeating the purpose of wearing it!
Step four – take off your mask (‘doffing’) from behind by the straps, don’t touch the front of it, and bin it. Then Wash. Your. Hands.
